Want to know what we're working on?

My 6th graders just finished up their HOPI Kachina Dolls. From monkey kachinas to fire kachinas, their designs were sophisticated and inventive. One doll is even flying in mid-air. I am VERY proud of the work ethic and artistic talent in the 6th grade classroom. Photos soon to come.

Here are some photos of the Chinese Scroll Paintings that were completed before the Kachina Dolls.

In 7th grade we are constructing paper mache Gargoyles after studying medieval architecture and sculpture. I can't wait to see the finished product of these figures combining animal and human characteristics. What started out as recycled materials and newspaper are becoming 3-dimensional beasts. As soon as they are spray painted (like stone) they will be displayed in the Urbana Library (upstairs). Stay tuned for details.

8th grade students are beginning to paint their fine art parodies of Grant Wood's American Gothic and Leonardo DaVinci's Mona Lisa. Talk about masterpieces! We have turned the Mona Lisa into skeletons, cartoon characters, a mermaid, and even SNOOKI (Oh my). On the other hand, the American Gothic couple has been transformed into a cheeseburger and fries, Bert and Ernie, a king and queen, and Mr. and Mrs. Clause. Such creative students I have! More photos to come.
