Surrealistic Dreamscapes

Surrealism at its BEST! This mixed media project incorporates drawing and shading techniques, pen and ink techniques (stippling and cross-hatching), Nupastels, colored pencils, and colored markers. My 8th graders this year are taking their creativity to the next level by transforming objects, mixing up subjects and locations, and reaching deep into their imaginations.

6th Grade COLOR Still Life

My 6th grade artists are working on still life drawings with colored pencils! I'm amazed at how many talented artists I have at the beginning stage of this project. My students are creating value with colored pencils using shading and mixing techniques. This is only the rough draft, I can't wait to see their final artwork! 

Ms. Neel's Artwork: Pet Portraits

Here are four of my latest pieces of artwork. I have always wanted to do pet portraits because I absolutely LOVE dogs! I had so much fun using Nupastels (hard pastels), water, and paintbrushes to create these pieces. My students were even able to watch me add finishing touches to some of them during class. I think we might have a few Nupastel gift requests over the holidays. Oops, sorry parents! :)

FREE DRAW CHALLENGE WINNERS!

Better late than never! CONGRATULATIONS ARTISTS!

In this challenge, students were given 9 objects to include in their artwork. Some of these objects included: drawing themselves as a zombie, a haunted house, a pumpkin patch, Mr. and Mrs. Frankenstein getting married, a leaf with zentangle designs, and more. Creating an overall composition that "made sense" was quite the challenge.

Illuminated Letters - Wax Resist

7th grade classes created illuminated letter wax resists. I do this project each year because the end results are stunning! Crayon, paint, and scratch tools can create masterpieces. This project focuses on precision and attention to detail. The wax resist technique is a favorite among my students. Make sure you scroll all the way down!

Fall/Halloween FREE DRAW CHALLENGE!

All three grades are competing in a Halloween free draw challenge. My students were given nine items to include in their drawings in a unique way. Some of which, include themselves as a zombie, a haunted house, a pumpkin patch, and more...they are also required to use a variety of coloring techniques using colored pencils and markers. 

Each grade will be judged by the other two grades. PRIZES are at stake for the most creative pieces of artwork.
